Ectus was set up to commercialise the University’s elearning platform ‘Class Forum’. The focus required to operate within a commercial environment has resulted in Class Forum evolving into a mature product that is not only more useful for the University but also sold throughout the world. Ectus has been bought by Norwegian-listed multinational Tandberg, a global leader in visual communication.
Apimed
Apimed was a joint venture formed to commercialise medical uses for honey invented by Professor Peter Molan. The company was purchased by Comvita, who see it as a key part of their future growth strategy.
ZyGEM
ZyGEM has created a product from an enzyme found in Antartica that can be used to reduce the number of steps needed for the extraction of DNA. ZyGEM has now launched its DNA extraction products on the global market and the company is predicted to grow rapidly in the international market.

Endace
Originating from research generated out of Waikato University, Endace was established in 2001, and is now a UK-listed (AIM:EDA) global business, selling products in over 30 countries. Endace designs, develops, sells and supports high-speed network packet capture technology capable of capturing every packet, of any size, on any network interface, up to speeds of 40Gb/s. Endace's products are used globally by Government Agencies, Telecommunications operators, Banks and Financial Services and large corporates for a wide range of high-speed network monitoring, management, and security applications.
